Haiti in need

As you probably heard, in the 12th of January, Haiti was hit by a catastrophic earthquake, followed by at least 52 aftershocks. As of Feb. 12, an estimated three million people were affected by the quake; the Haitian Government reports that between 217,000 and 230,000 people had been identified as dead, an estimated 300,000 injured, and an estimated 1,000,000 homeless. The death toll is expected to rise. They also estimated that 250,000 residences and 30,000 commercial buildings had collapsed or were severely damaged.
The earthquake caused major damage to Port-au-Prince, Jacmel and other settlements in the region. Many notable landmark buildings were significantly damaged or destroyed, including the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly building, the Port-au-Prince Cathedral, and the main jail. Among those killed were Archbishop of Port-au-Prince Joseph Serge Miot, and opposition leader Micha Gaillard. The headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), located in the capital, collapsed, killing many, including the Mission’s Chief, Hédi Annabi.

Following the devastation caused by the magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010, a remake of the song “We are the world” by another all-star cast of singers was recorded on February 1, 2010. Entitled “We Are the World 25 for Haiti”, it was released as a single on February 12, 2010, and proceeds from the record will aid survivors of the impoverished country. “We Are the World” has demonstrated that diverse musicians can productively work together, and has further influenced the movement within pop music to create songs that address humane concerns.

Together, we can help our brothers in Haiti, by donating money to one of the following organisations. Any amount is welcomed.

The organisations are:

The Red Cross
UNICEF
Doctors without borders

If you like the song/video or both, you can buy them from here.

Balanta mortilor este in crestere.

Cutremurul a cauzat daune majore in Port-au-Prince, Jacmel si alte asezari din zona. Sediul Misiunii de Stabilizare in Haiti a Natiunilor Unite, aflat in capitala, s-a prabusit, omorand sub daramaturi multe persoane, inclusive pe Liderul Misiunii, Hédi Annabi.

Dupa evenimentul devastator, pe 1 februarie a fost inregistrat un re-make al piesei “We are the world”. Numit “We are the world 25 for Haiti”, a fost lasat ca single in 12 ianuarie si castigurile obtinute de pe urma melodiei ii vor ajuta pe supravietuitorii cutremurului. “We are the world” a demonstrate ca diversi muzicieni pot conlucra productive si a influentat miscarea din muzica pop pentru a crea melodii care atrag atentia asupra oamenilor.

  1. Denny Said,

    great article :)

  2. LeeA Said,

Da un articol frumos! Atat doar ca, ar fi fain sa scri si in limba romana gandurile tale.Stiu ca hotararea ta de a scrie in engleza are atat ratiuni psihologice cat si practice. Cius :-* :)

  3. LeeA Said,

    [Spoken]
In Our Darkest Hour (in clipele noastre intunecate)
In My Deepest Despair (in durerile mele cele mai profunde)
Will You Still Care?(iti va mai pasa?)
Will You Be There? (imi vei fi alaturi?)
In My Trials (in incercarile mele,)
    And My Tribulations(in suferintele mele,)
Through Our Doubts (in indoielile noastre,)
    And Frustrations (in frustrari)
    In My Violence(in violenta mea,)
In My Turbulence( in momentele mele de cumpana)
Through My Fear (in temerile mele)
And My Confessions (in marturisirile mele)
In My Anguish And My Pain (in angoasele si durerea mea,)
Through My Joy And My Sorrow (in bucuria si tristetea mea?)
In The Promise Of Another Tomorrow (in promisiunea unei alte zile de maine)
I’ll Never Let You Part(nu te voi dezamagi)
For You’re Always In My Heart.(pentru ca esti mereu in inima mea)!
